Gentle
She said be gentle with me
There's lots of things wrong that you can't see
She said 'I've never had a man like you, who took such care
You just like me happy, other men like me scared'
I said 'I'll always keep you safe, and smiling and warm.
And I will give you shelter from every kind of storm'
She said "lay down with me / for a while
let me see your sweet crooked smile'
I said "I'll stay here as long as you need
There ain't nowhere else in the world that I'd rather be"
She said "I want you to understand how much this means
To have you in my life and in my dreams"
I said "I know that things have been hard, but they won't be with me
I'll give you all the love I can give, and I can give you it all"

I was sitting around the house, wearing my suit
Wondering what to do
I went to find a funeral
Of someone I wish that I knew
Someone with a real nice house / A wife and a couple of kids
I sat at the back and bowed my head
And cried when they closed the lid
When that was done, I got in my car
to find a fancy place to eat
I got a table for two and a bottle of wine
And just stared at the empty seat
The server asked me what I want
I told him I need time to think
Just bring me the special and I'll leave a big tip
So you can join me for my next drink
After dinner, I went to a film
Something poignant and stark
I got some snacks and I took my seat
To wait for the film to start
When it began I got up to go
But I left my coat behind
Hoping some will find it and track me down
And end up a new friend of mine
I went to get brunch at 11 o'clock
At a cheap little place downtown
I looked the waitress deep in the eye
When she asked me "white or brown?"
I told her I don't really care too much
I ain’t got much taste for food
If it makes her glad she can burn it black
It'll taste just like my mood
I'll pack my bags and fill my tank
And head for the great unknown
I've got a tent I can pitch somewhere
If I don't wanna be seen no more
Maybe I'll just drive till my spirit breaks down
And see where I go from there
Worst thing to happen is I run into you
And you tell me that you still don't care
